New book benefits
efforts to
uphold copyright laws
Iola,
Wis. - January 18, 2001
A new instructional stitching
publication not only teaches crafters about new patterns,
but also educates them about the copyright laws surrounding
such creations. "A Celebration of Stitching"
is a wonderful compilation of talent and ingenuity, which
provides enjoyment along with education. Thanks
to significant donations of time, creativity, energy and
services, this new book will benefit the Copyright
Protection Fund devoted to raising awareness of the
potential threat of copyright violations. More
than 70 international needlecraft designers each submitted a
unique project for inclusion in this very special and
exciting book. The designs are colorful and creative,
with each designer throwing in his or her flare.
Designers, the publisher, suppliers, trade magazines,
organizations, distributors and store owners all did their
best to ensure that the majority of the proceeds from the
sales of this book will go toward the Copyright Protection
Fund. Everyone
involved in the industry realizes the need for this
fund. Too often craft designs are being reproduced and
distributed without the author's / artist's consent.
This is considered copyright infringement. Krause
Publications, which donated its editing, designing and
paginating skills to the publishing of "A Celebration
of Stitching," "is pleased to participate in this
worthy endeavor," said Pat Klug, Manager of the Book
Division. "As a publisher, we appreciate the
importance of the protection we receive under copyright
law... Unless we create under that protection, our books
could be easily copied, used, or re-published by
others." "A
Celebration of Stitching" can be purchased from major
bookstores (ISBN 0-87349-284-6) or directly from the
